The shop also bakes vegetarian butter, chocolate, banana and carrot cakes. Some of the cakes are frosted elaborately and perfect for special occasions like birthdays. According to Krishna, their plain cakes are also popular during the Deepavali celebrations. Festival of Lights celebration, other must-haves are muruku and achi muruku with its distinct flower shape. As the shop is completely vegetarian, no egg is used in the achi muruku’s batter and soy milk is utilised. The thin batter makes it trickier to fry in the hot oil, a skill perfected by Krishna’s Indian cooks. The right ingredients is also incredibly important and Krishna insists on sourcing them directly from India. “For my muruku, I buy dhal, cook and grind it ourselves as I cannot get the original taste if I buy the flour,” he explains.
